About Us
The Research on International Policy Implementation Lab (RIPIL) is based at American University. Founded in 2020, RIPIL investigates pressing topics in international peace, security, development, and humanitarian response with the aim of translating scholarly research into societal impact. We do this by applying a range of methods in close partnership with decision-makers and end users. RIPIL is an affiliate of Bridging the Gap.
We welcome inquiries regarding collaboration and partnerships. Please contact us at RIPIL@american.edu.
Our Research Model
At RIPIL, we understand that effective policy requires accessible and useful evidence from the local to the global level. We also understand that research use requires the end-user to be engaged throughout the research process.
We do this through sustained relationships and convening practices that create spaces for philanthropic leaders, civil society, policymakers, and academics to engage with research and rigorous analysis. We engage with this diverse group of stakeholders to generate new ideas and foster collaborative conversations and problem-solving.
Our research model centers on building partnerships with decision-makers and end users to:
Identify important research questions,
Conduct rigorous research on these questions, and
Engage partners throughout the research process.
By building space for collaboration, learning, and evidence-informed decision-making, RIPIL helps to ensure that its research contributes to scholarly knowledge and improved policy and practice. Our goal is to build a community committed to finding real solutions to address emerging challenges in international peace, security, development, and humanitarian response.
